How you can accumulate 30 minutes

without overburdening your schedule

Be active at home

  • Watch television while doing exercises such as abdominal contractions, stretches or get on your stationary bicycle.
  • Play with the kids instead of looking at them.
  • Do housework (it needs to be done anyway!): vacuuming, sweeping, washing the floor or the windows.
  • Do outside chores: gardening, mowing the lawn, sweeping the leaves, washing the car.
  • Take Sparky out for a walk.
  • Go get your own drink of water instead of waiting for somebody else to get up!
  • Don’t think twice about going to the basement or upstairs.

Be active while you commute

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator or the escalator (no need to go up 7 flights at once!).
  • Use your bike to get to the video store.
  • Walk to get a pint of milk.
  • Walk, cycle or rollerblade to work.
  • Get off the bus a few stops before your destination and walk.
  • Stop going around in circles to get that parking spot next to the door at the mall or the supermarket.

Be active at work

  • Get up and stretch at least every hour.
  • Take a walk during your break or lunch.
  • Make an appointment with yourself for some physical activity: write it down on your agenda as you would any other business meeting.

Be active while you play

  • Practice a sport or an activity with colleagues or friends you wouldn’t have a chance to see otherwise.
  • Improve your guests’ digestion by proposing a walk after dinner.
  • Take dance lessons.
  • Walk the 18 holes instead of using a golf cart.
  • Plan a walk or a bicycle tour with the kids. Bring grandma, the cousins, the neighbours: physical activity is good for all of them!
